Camargue Travel Guide: Flamingos, White Horses and the Rhône Delta

The Camargue is where the Rhône splits and spills into the Mediterranean, leaving behind a delta of salt lagoons, rice fields and pink-tinged water. It is the only place in France where you will find flamingos wading in the wild, white horses running loose across the marsh, and black bulls grazing between the two. Most visitors pass through in a day on the way to Provence. That is a mistake — the delta rewards slowness, and the light at dawn over the étangs is the reason people come back. This guide collects everything I have written about the region: when to go, where to sleep, how to get there, and which tours are worth the money.
